This dish is designed to hold a bar of soap up so that it will drain and dry. It could also be used to hold sponges, or perhaps even as a spoon-rest. It is 4-5/8 inches in diameter, stands about 3/4 of an inch tall, and weighs just under 1/2 of a pound.

The beautiful red color of the Phoenix Red glaze depends on the oxidation-reduction chemistry of the atmosphere in the kiln when the piece is fired. If the atmosphere is not sufficiently reducing, the element which gives the color will become oxidized and turn green instead of red. That’s what happened with this piece!

These wares are handthrown and hand glazed, and as such there will be variations in size, shape, and color, even in �matched� sets. Each piece really is beautifully unique!
